Kikoru Shinomiya is introduced as a prodigy within the Third Division, immediately standing out during her first mission alongside Kafka Hibino and Reno Ichikawa. She is the daughter of Isao Shinomiya, the Director General of the Japanese Anti-Kaiju Defense Force. Following the attack on the Tachikawa base by Kaiju No. 10, Kafka is forced to reveal his kaiju form to save the base. After being apprehended by Mina Ashiro, Kafka proves his value by defeating Isao Shinomiya in a duel. Subsequently, Kafka and Kikoru are both transferred to the First Division, led by Captain Gen Narumi. In preparation for a full-scale invasion by Kaiju No. 9, Kikoru undergoes intensive training and inherits her mother's Numbers 4 weapon, a powerful suit made from daikaiju remains. During the invasion, Kikoru defeats her assigned opponent, Kaiju No. 13. Later, alongside Kafka and Mina, she ultimately defeats the ancient kaiju Meireki. A year after the final battle, Kikoru is promoted to vice-captain of the First Division.

In Their Own Story

During the full-scale invasion of Japan by Kaiju No. 9, kaiju designated Nos. 11 through 15 attack specific Defense Force members. Kikoru, alongside Gen Narumi, Soshiro Hoshina, and Kafka Hibino, defeats her assigned opponent, Kaiju No. 13. Later, after Kafka revives in a stronger kaiju form, he, Kikoru, and Mina Ashiro confront the ancient kaiju Meireki. Meireki resurrects previous kaiju to battle them, but the three ultimately defeat it, with Kafka delivering the final blow. After the battle, Kafka falls into a four-month coma but recovers. A year later, Kikoru is promoted to vice-captain of the First Division in recognition of her service.
