Numbers weapons are created from the remains of daikaiju—kaiju with high fortitude levels or abnormal characteristics that are given a number as an identifier. These weapons are named after the daikaiju they are made from. Compatibility is required to wield them, and only a select few officers can do so. Numbers weapons are much stronger than regular powered suits and provide their users with special abilities. For example, Isao Shinomiya, the Director General, wielded the Numbers 2 weapon, a powered suit of armor derived from Kaiju No. 2. Kikoru Shinomiya inherited her mother's Numbers 4 weapon, and Reno Ichikawa acquired the Numbers 6 weapon and trained with the Fourth Division. The weapons are maintained by the Defense Force and are considered the highest tier of equipment available to human officers.

In Their Own Story

During the invasion of Japan, kaiju designated Nos. 11 through 15 attacked specific Defense Force members. Gen Narumi, Soshiro Hoshina, Kafka Hibino, and Kikoru Shinomiya each defeated their assigned opponents using their Numbers weapons. Later, No. 9 used the corpse of Kaiju No. 14 to teleport to Mina Ashiro's location, intending to kill and absorb her. Kafka reached her in time with Reno's assistance, and together they defeated No. 9. After the battle, Kafka's health deteriorated, but he recovered from a four-month coma. His heart was restored by the spirit of Isao Shinomiya, who entrusted him with the future. A year later, Kikoru was promoted to vice-captain of the First Division, and Kafka was appointed platoon leader of the Third Division. The Defense Force permitted him to use his kaiju form when necessary, provided he exercised caution to remain undetected.
